Awakening was the culmination exhibition of Mitsu’s artist residency at Villa Pandan Harum, Bali, Indonesia from 2011-2012. It was a solo exhibition overtaking two floors at Made Budhiana Gallery.
The work blended the past with the present and ranged from portraits of people Salmon had encountered in Bali as well as memories of Kyoto where she had lived the last few years. Gesture and gestural mark making were the impetus for the work and for the opening Mitsu performed a dance taking from these gestures.
